Jennifer Barber awarded William T. Grant Foundation Distinguished Fellowship

Jennifer Barber was awarded a William T. Grant Foundation Fellowship for 2011-2012 for her work with clinic and service organization administrators on teen pregnancy prevention. Research sites include Planned Parenthood of Mid and South Michigan and Teen HYPE, a Detroit community organization that focuses on teen pregnancy prevention.

Myron Gutmann named AAAS Fellow

Myron Gutmann, currently on leave at the NSF, was one of 14 U-M faculty members recently elected as fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Election as a fellow is made by AAAS members in recognition of “scientifically or socially distinguished efforts to advance science or its applications.”

PSC training faculty Brian Jacob was ranked 54 of 121 in *Education Week’s* list of the university-based academics who contributed most to public discourse on education in 2011. The rankings are based on the number and popularity of publications and the number of media mentions.

Fred Conrad appointed director U-M Program in Survey Methodology

Fred Conrad succeeds James Lepkowski, the founding director, as head of Michigan’s Program in Survey Methodology. David Lam to lead European research program studying labor markets of poor countries

David Lam has been appointed director of a European research program to study economic growth and labor markets in low-income countries. The £10 million program is funded by the United Kingdom Department for International Development and the German Institute for the Study of Labor. The funds will support peer-reviewed research projects around the world.¶¶

Barbara Anderson appointed to the Census Bureau’s Scientific Advisory Committee

Barbara Anderson has been appointed to the Census Scientific Advisory Board by the Director of the Census Bureau. The C-SAC provides scientific and technical expertise to address policy, research, and technical issues relating to a full range of Census Bureau programs and activities, including communications, decennial, demographic, economic, field operations, geographic, information technology, and statistics.

Pamela Smock elected to PAA Board of Directors

Pamela Smock will begin a 3-year term in January 2012 as a board member of the Population Association of America. Other newly elected board members are John Haaga (NIA), Megan Sweeney (UCLA), and Yang Yang (UNC). The new PAA President-elect is Christine Bachrach (Univ MD) and new VP-elect is Duncan Thomas (Duke).
