The GSA has given Toni Antonucci its 2011 Distinguished Career Contribution to Gerontology Award, in recognition of her novel theoretical and research contributions in the area of aging. She will receive the award at GSA’s 65th Annual Scientific Meeting in San Diego, November 14-18, 2012.

Tanya Byker awarded Hewlett Foundation-IIE fellowship
PSC trainee Tanya Byker has won a 2012 dissertation fellowship to study the impact of fertility timing on labor force outcomes in the United States, Peru and South Africa. The 2-year fellowship is awarded by the the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation and the Institute of International Education.
Nicholas, Langa, Iwashyna, and Weir win award for JAMA paper
Lauren Nicholas, Kenneth Langa, Theodore Iwashyna, and David Weir have received the 2012 article-of-the-year award from Academy Health for their *JAMA* article [“Regional Variation in the Association Between Advance Directives and End-of-Life Medicare.”](http://jama.jamanetwork.com/article.aspx?articleid=1104465) The annual award recognizes the best scientific work that the fields of health services research and health policy have produced and published.

Pamela Smock elected president of the Association of Population Centers
The Association of Population Centers has named Pamela Smock as the organization’s president for a two-year term. The APC is an independent group of university- and research organization-based centers that work together to foster collaborative demographic research and data sharing, disseminate research findings to policy makers, and support training in population studies.
Elisha Renne awarded Guggenheim Fellowship for African studies
Elisha Renne has been awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship for 2012. She is one of 181 mid-career scholars, artists, and scientists currently supported by Guggenheim for both their prior achievement and their exceptional promise.
