Transnational repression represents a growing threat to civil society, democracy and dissent in todays world. Advances in technology and communication as well as shifts in migration have meant that both dissent and repression are flowing across borders today. Borders between democratic systems and autocratic regimes are increasingly blurred and the chilling effect of repressive reach impacts societies thought to be free and open. Exposing these activities, in their true scale, scope and origins, is the primary step toward addressing the problem. Our project seeks to make this contribution of knowledge and engage the policy community as well to think about steps that can be taken to address this phenomenon and protect civil society and dissenters from a wide range of transnational threats.
