Challenges to inclusive and equitable evidence-building research in the Federal Statistical Research Data Centers (FSRDCs)

We propose a 9-month outreach and data collection program that will identify the barriers that have faced researchers when they have a project that would benefit from the use of FSRDC data. We will focus on researchers for which there may be structural impediments to access, including less-resourced public colleges and universities, minority-serving institutions (MSIs), local government agencies, and small nonprofit agencies. The outreach portion of the program will include expanding institutional access to FSRDCs and matching new researchers with experienced mentors. We have already collected pilot data from a convenience sample of faculty at MSIs to test the data collection approach. We have collected 18 responses so far, and through those responses have identified several individuals at MSIs who would be willing to serve on an advisory board for further data collection and program expansion.
