U.S. Elderly Population Becoming More Concentrated

The U.S. Population is aging unevenly from state to state and place to place. Using data from the 1960-90 decennial censuses, this article describes recent trends in the concentration of the elderly population. Findings indicate that elderly population growth was strongest in the Sunbelt: South, West, and South Atlantic, as well as the northern Midwest. A listing of high elderly growth rate cities as well as elderly populations by region are also included.
