Lloyd Johnston says data from the Monitoring the Future study shows: “It’s clear that for the past seven or eight years there has been an increase in marijuana use among the nation’s college students.” In 2014, 5.9% of the surveyed college students reported smoking marijuana daily or near-daily, compared to 3.5% in 2007. In terms of daily cigarette smoking, the rate for 2014 was 5%, compared to 19% in 1999.
