Examining data on 4,000 women in the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth, Cassandra Dorius found that 28% of mothers have children from multiple men. She also found that these women tend to be disadvantaged compared to other mothers. “They are more likely to be under-employed, to have lower incomes, and to be less educated,” says Dorius.
