Elizabeth Moje, a literacy expert who is the dean of the University of Michigan College of Education and author of an amicus brief in the case, said every day children weren’t learning in Detroit schools was a lost opportunity.¶¶”Those losses compound over time and make future learning more difficult,” Moje said. ” As a result, many children cannot take full advantage of improved learning opportunities now available because they have to first catch up on what they were denied.”
