This new study seeks to analyze the complete historical archive of raw nighttime satellite imagery to track the supply and stability of electricity service at the local level spanning nearly 8,000 nights since 1992. By developing and validating signal processing techniques to discern spatial and temporal patterns in the way electricity is distributed across and within countries, the assignment seeks to boost the capacity to track the effectiveness of electrification projects after books are closed or monitoring teams have left.
