In this project, we assess when and why people misreport their own skin color. The results will contribute to the burgeoning body of work exploring the relationship between skin color and life experiences by providing 1) original data on biases in skin color assessments through the use of objective and subjective measures; 2) insights on the psychological mechanisms driving these biases; and 3) new insights into the influence of reported skin color on political perspectives. The data will be collected by embedding a novel experiment in a racially diverse survey of 1500 respondents throughout the Detroit and Chicago metropolitan regions.
