The Youth Policy Lab team will work with MDRC to develop guidelines and a framework to evaluate the quality of PK-3 math curriculum, explore to what extent and in what ways existing PK-3 math curricula meet or fail to meet those guidelines, and identify gaps in scope and sequence, developmentally appropriate practices, multilingual instruction and supports. We will help outline appropriate content scope and sequence, provide rationales and definitions for those guidelines, identify recommended priorities for review (e.g. scaffolding, SEL, Constrained v. unconstrained skills, LTs) and identify examples of evidence that demonstrates appropriate progressions, and instructional practice. Finally, we will identify recommendations for thresholds of meeting, partially meeting, not meeting, quality dimensions. We will then evaluate a set of math curriculum using the established guidelines.
