The Sesame Workshop China-United States Planetarium Project is designed to provide young Chinese and American children with age-appropriate introduction to astronomy, to promote positive attitudes toward science among young children in both countries, and to foster understanding of one another among children in China and the United States. Brief interviews with a sample of children prior to their viewing of the show and a few minutes after the completion of the viewing experience will be done. Also parents and teachers will be interviewed in each country to get a comprehensive empirical assessment of the impact of the proposed program on each of the three major objectives of the proposed collaboration. In addition to the three major strands outlined above, a separate qualitative study of the impact of the proposed program on the leadership of the major participating institutions in China and the United States will be conducted by Professor Miller.
