This eighteen-month project will initiate a new, long-term collaboration between the University of Puerto Rico (UPR) and the University of Michigan (UM) to collect, organize, and disseminate data on public opinion, political behavior, and the operations of political institutions in Puerto Rico. The collaboration is intended to accomplish two goals: to strengthen social science research infrastructure at UPR; and to improve infrastructure for measuring and analyzing public opinion and other politically relevant data in Puerto Rico. We seek funding to determine the optimal type of survey and the appropriate sampling framework to meet our goals; develop procedures to recruit and train survey recruiters across the island; identify the appropriate format for administering the survey; design quality control measures; and create a plan to ensure the financial and logistical sustainability of the infrastructure over time.
