Advancing Research into Changing Housing Markets in the United States through Enhanced Access to Zillow’s ZTRAX Data

The Zillow ZTRAX database is widely utilized in academic and applied research due to its comprehensive collection of real estate and housing data. ZTRAX includes property transactions, tax assessments, and geographic information for the U.S., making it a rich resource for investigating various economic, social, and urban issues. Zillow suspended its program, providing researchers access to Zillow data in 2023. ICPSRs proposed project expands research on housing market changes, related outcomes, and policy-relevant topics. Our project team will work with Zillow toward two broad research goals to (1) ensure the ZTRAX data are curated to be findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable (FAIR) by a broad scientific community as part of ICPSR and (2) advance new scholarship on the causes of and impacts of historical changes in housing markets across the United States.
