The goal of this project is to leverage recent advances in the development of data platforms, high performance computing capacity, and AI to address the challenges that currently limit researchers use of the MET video data. We propose developing a secure, cloud-based research platform that supports the use of AI with the MET data and prioritizes the following features: ?meets the security and compliance requirements of working with data on children obtained under a FERPA exemption; ?allows for a flexible, secure computing environment that scales both storage and computing needs based on the users research needs; and ?allows for the use of open-source code and software developed in the data science community. If successful, this project will address one of the biggest challenges that currently limits researchers use of the MET video data. This project will develop a scalable, secure research platform that provides the necessary computing infrastructure for working with big data and use of AI. By enabling AI analysis of the MET videos, this research platform will expand the use of a valuable data resource, reduce barriers for junior and under-resourced researchers to conduct research with classroom observational data, and promote interdisciplinary collaborations. Ultimately, the development of this research platform will advance our understanding of teaching and learning by making a valuable video collection more accessible and usable to the education research community.
