This chapter discusses some of the differences in the paths by which lower class and upper-middle class women create their families. The primary goal is to elucidate how the Theory of Conjunctural Action (TCA) can be used to better understand social class differences in the timing and context of childbearing in the U.S. The chapter first discusses the concept of social class and its connection to the timing and relationship context of childbearing, then explains these patterns vis-à-vis the TCA.
